Above, the cover of the NEW Cosmic Dust CD, "Step Right Up!" (April 2008)

ABOVE: THE NEW COSMIC DUST - Left to right: Dave Turner (bass), Charlie Doggett (drums), Jim Templeton, (keyboards & composer), Chris Mosley (guitar), and John Nastos (sax),

Having moved to Vancouver in November of 2005, I left behind "Cosmic Dust," the band I formed (together with Gary Edighoffer) years ago in Spokane. (See the CD, "Journey" above.) Years later, I decided to recreate the band in the Portland area. After only 3 rehearsals, and no gigs, we went into the "Magic Closet Studio," February 3. It was an intense 8-hour day in the "Magic Closet" studio, segments of which you can hear by clicking at the left.

Our DEBUT: Jimmy Mak's, April 18, as starting band (8PM) on the KPSU "Jazzstravganza."

This music is different: some of it as close to classical as to jazz: a new sort of "fusion." As you listen to the tunes, I hope your imagination creates images--musical landscapes--and that you find yourself later humming the melodies and themes. My inspiration has been Bartok, Debussy, and "Weather Report."

Here are some live recordings of various gigs through the years. These will be varying often.

As Time Goes By
Jim on piano, playing civilized restaurant music...

Morgendis
Jim, son Janus on drums, Clipper Anderson on bass...

Have You Met Miss Jones?
Vocalist Cheryl Hodge, with Jim's combo.

Acropolis
This track attests to what some have suspected: that Jim's mind is irrepairably warped and distorted: a Moog solo from "1000 Hours Symphony, with the rock band, Acropolis in Denmark.

Ah So
A trio take of Horace Silver's, "Ah So."
